Staying organized through the holidays is not easy – between decorating, shopping, visiting, etc., there just doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day to get it all done! In an effort to help you simplify, I’ve listed some tips below that address some common holiday concerns. Give them a try and see if you can put the “Happy” back into “Holidays”!
Decorating – Before you decorate, clean up the clutter so your family and guests can appreciate the effect! Toss or donate decorations that you no longer want or like or are no longer in good shape – and don’t feel compelled to put out every decoration every year!
Shopping – Think geographically and shop accordingly. Make lots of lists ahead of time to avoid wandering the stores aimlessly. Give experiences versus stuff – offer your talents (sewing, cooking, painting), services (babysitting, organizing!), or adventures (museum passes, movies tickets, spa treatments).
Visiting – don’t jam-pack your holiday social calendar – fill in the absolutely obligatory events and be discerning with the other invitations. There is no betterway to guarantee the crankies (for adults and kids) than sleep deprivation!
Traditions – Just because you have always done some holiday-tradition thing does not mean you always have to keep doing it! Continue only those traditions that truly mean something to you and your family, the season is too short and time too precious.
