The National Association of Professional Organizers has designated January as "GO Month," or "Get Organized Month". For many people, getting organized is way up there on that New Year’s Resolution list. And for good reason - we know that being organized decreases our stress, increases our ability to get things done and saves us time and money.

This year, NAPO is focusing on seniors for GO Month. Senior citizens face unique organizing challenges. Downsizing, passing along family treasures, and maintaining medical history and medication needs are just some of the issues facing our seniors today. There is also the unprecedented deluge of mail, papers, junk mail and telemarketers. Unfortunately, many seniors do not have the resources or skills to deal with these problems and the result is chaos and overwhelm.

Please consider the seniors in your life and how you could help him/her cope when faced with the above situations. If you are unable to help personally, hiring a professional organizer is another option to consider.

I have listed below some contact resources to assist your senior with paper and phone call overload:

To stop junk mail contact the Direct Marketing Association. You can register by mail for a $1.00 fee and have your name removed from prospect mailing lists of companies who are members of DMA:

Mail Preference Service
